History and evolution of institutional support

 
 
  • 1889 – Foundation of the Institution (02/05/1889)
  • 1931 – Lieutenant Domingos Cardoso was invited by Governor Nosolini to direct the A.P.P. for the support of the most disadvantaged during the Second World War, through the distribution of lunches - Palácio da Junta
  • 1938 – Change of facilities for the building where the Agricultural Board Refrigerator was installed
  • 1993 – Beginning of the adaptation of the users to new customs of socialization
  • 1997 – Improvement of lunch and introduction of new meals
  • 1999 – Change to temporary facilities at Rua das Hortas: Implementation of Social Support in the follow-up and counseling of social integration and health of users. Beginning of demolitions at headquarters, with the aim of adapting the facilities to the services necessary to the current reality of the recurrent population
 
 
  • 2000 – Initiation of support in the area of Health through a Public Health Nurse, highlighted by the Bom Jesus Health Center
  • 2001 – Opening of the Center for Night Accomodation - Pilot Experience. Inauguration of the restoration of the Headquarters: Valences - Baby changing room, Spas, Social Support Office, Canteen, Wardrobe, Laundry, Social room
  • 2002 – Introduction of activities capable of stimulating social insertion at the level of Recurrent Basic Education, Free Time Occupation, Health Education Sessions, Anti-Alcohol and Counseling and Monitoring Meetings, Land and Sea Tours, Study Visits, various Training Actions
  • 2004 – Recurrent Teaching Initiation through the posting by the Regional Secretary of Education, of a Teacher of the 1st Cycle of Basic Education
 
 
 
 
  • 2005 – Hiring of a Social Animator, with the objective of developing internal and external activities in the Occupational Atelier
  • 2008 – Creation of a Street Team to support Homeless people, consisting of a Social Worker and a Psychologist
  • 2009 – Extension of the opening hours of the Institution, with the opening of the same on Sundays and the introduction of dinners from Monday to Sunday
  • 2010 – Beginning of psychology care in the Institution
  • 2010 – Beginning of daily nursing follow-up at the institution
  • 2010 – Inauguration of the new Night Reception Center with capacity for 24 users in a situation of Homelessness and 4 users through the line of Social Emergency 144
  • 2011 – Training and 1st Performance of the A.P.P. Choir
  • 2012 – Opening of the Occupational Atelier on Saturday mornings
  • 2013/2014 – Introduction of several projects, at the level of group therapies, rehabilitation and development of autonomization skills, in order to better integrate
  • 2014 - Implementation of an educational theater group and another of musical choreography
 
 
  • 2015 – On June 10, 2015, the Institution received the Honorary Member Degree of the Order of Merit, awarded by the Honorable Republic's President Aníbal Cavaco Silva, as Grand Master of all Honorary Orders , as recognition of the work carried out with the most needy population. This distinction was given to this institution on 10 June - "Day of Portugal and Portuguese Communities Abroad" by the Republic Representative in R.A.M., Councilor Judge Irenaeus Barreto
  • Jan 2016 – Enlargement of the Street Team for Homeless people - ERSA allowing a proximity intervention with the intention of better intervening and integrating the users Homelessness users in the Community.
  • March 2016 – Initiation of new projects "Porto Seguro" and "Viver + Vida", developed by ERSA, in which the first one intends to address the disadvantages of homelessness to the users in a situation of homelessness, in order to encourage the change of habits and the search for better living conditions. And the second is to develop, together with the users who stay overnight at the Center for Night Accomodation and attend the Occupational Atelier, their skills, as well as to promote continuous autonomization programs.
  • Feb 2017 – Start of a "My Little House" Project, among the users who spend the night in the street and in the Night Accomodation Center and who do not yet have the skills to join the Occupational Atelier. This project intends to create a securizing space, daytime functioning, with leisure, recreational and artistic activities. The project runs daily, in the Multipurpose Room of APP, with the support of technicians of the multidisciplinary team of APP, between the hours between 10:00 and 12:00
